Fairmount Cemetery
Fairmount Cemetery is a well-cared-for ground on a hill side sloping to the east and is appointed with several varieties of trees and shrubs. Older graves are interspersed with more modern interments. Some of the early settlers and ranchers, like the Creaghes are buried here. The St. George Creaghe family were Scots and early ranchers. The senior Creaghe and his sons were one-time owners of part of the huge SS or Holly Ranch with headquarters at what is now the Sand Creek Massacre NHS. Military veterans from the Civil War through 20th Century wars are buried throughout and in a separate veteran’s section.
