Fort Lyon National Cemetery

It has the look and feel of a traditional National Cemetery or military cemetery with neat and orderly “rank and file” presentations of markers.  The 19th Century stone markers can be distinguished by the shield either outlined or carved out of the face of the stone with letters of the decedent’s name and unit raised.  Most Civil War headstones are made in such a way, although there are only a few Civil War veterans noted here.  Most of the pre-1900 markers represent veterans of the “Spanish-American” War.  Removed from high-traffic areas it is a place you can reflect on our citizen soldiers’ sacrifices.
