Partnering with Historic Theaters to Educate Local Residents about Regional Historic Sites


The Canyons & Plains of Southeast Colorado Regional Heritage Regional Taskforce (SECORHT) is seeking bids by professional Production Companies to produce seven, two-minute historical documentary segments to be shown as Public Service Announcements (PSAs) in first-run movie theaters.

The goal for this grant project is to educate high school students, young adults, families and adults about significant historical sites in their region and the importance of local stewardship. The objectives are to increase visitation at the following historic sites: Bent’s Old Fort National Historic Site, Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site, Granada Relocation Center/Camp Amache National Historic Landmark, Boggsville National Historic District, Santa Fe National Historic Trail and Comanche National Grassland.

Project completion date is April 30, 2010. To qualify, each firm must submit documentary production(s) with historical content. Please submit proposals electronically to jfenter@bresnan.net or by mail to Jeanne Fenter, Chairperson, 421 S. Main Street, Fowler, CO 81039 by July 31, 2009.

Scope of Work


A. Preproduction Phase: Concept, Research and Script Development
1. Conduct site surveys of historic sites and historic theaters
2. Coordinate story lines and interpretive messages with National Park Service
interpretive staff, Boggsville archaeologist, USFS staff
3. Meet with each theater owner to determine format requirements for each
theater’s projection equipment
4. Gather still imagery from historical and contemporary photography
5. Submit concept for client approval (both SHF and SECORHT)
6. Submit script for client approval (both SHF and SECORHT)
B. Production Phase: Shoot footage
1. Shoot video at all locations
2. Distribute press releases to regional media
C. Post Production Phase: Convert to final presentation formats
1. Digitize footage onto editing equipment
2. Record voice overs
3. Record original music
4. Edit segments
5. Convert to final presentation formats (different for each theater’s projection
equipment)
D. Distribution and Marketing Phase
1. Produce seven segments and distribute sets to theater operators:
• Grand Theater in Rocky Ford
• Lamar Theater in Lamar
• Fox Theater in La Junta
• Holly Theater in Holly
• Plains Theater in Eads
• Fowler Theater
• Springfield Theater

  1. Theater Owners begin showing PSA’s
  2. One hundred (100) DVD’s produced for SECORHT distribution to other venues in the region: The Lamar Welcome Center, Boggsville National Historic District, Bent’s Old Fort, local libraries, schools, and museums
