Kit Carson Museum

Constructed of adobe in 1940 and originally used to house German prisoners of war captured in South Africa, the Kit Carson Museum focuses on the history of Bent County from the time of Kit Carson through World War II. Additional buildings on view include an 1860 stage station, the original Bent County Jail, the first Las Animas city jail, a blacksmith shop, a carriage house and a one-room county school house--the Kreybill School. The Kit Carson Museum presents a collection of artifacts representing the development of Bent County from the days of Kit Carson through WWII.
